Linda Metheny Mulvihill
Co-Founder
Linda is a three-time Olympic All-Around Competitor (1964 Tokyo, 1968 Mexico City, 1972 Munich) and was the first American woman gymnast to make an Olympic Event Final. A five-time National Elite All-Around Champion, she spent nine years on the U.S. National Team (including two World Championship Teams) and earned seven gold medals at the Pan American Games.
Her career highlights also include Collegiate All-Around Champion, USGF Gymnast of the Year, and her first national title on the uneven bars—though she was best known for her artistry on balance beam and floor exercise. Simone Biles is the only other gymnast in the world to compete in 3 Olympic Games.
Linda began coaching in 1973 when she and her husband, Richard (Dick), opened the National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics. Together they raised three children—Doni-Jo (Jojo), David, and Matthew—each of whom participated in gymnastics and still contribute to NAAG’s programs today.
Richard (Dick) Mulvihill
Co-Founder (In Memoriam)
Dick Mulvihill co-founded NAAG with Linda in 1973 and was a driving force in American gymnastics for decades. He served as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Teams at the 1966 World Championships, 1967 and 1971 Pan American Games, 1967 World University Games, and the 1968 & 1972 Olympic Games.
Athletes he coached competed in six consecutive Olympic Games (1964–1984). Known for his innovation, technical expertise, and passion, Dick inspired and guided 17 Olympians and more than 50 National Champions, while also helping hundreds of gymnasts earn college scholarships.
His legacy lives on through numerous honors, including induction into the USAIG Hall of Fame (1982), USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame (1984), and the creation of the Region 2 Lifetime Achievement Award—now named the Dick Mulvihill Award.
Jojo Mulvihill-Gallo: Programs Director
As the eldest child of NAAG’s founders, Jojo quite literally grew up in the gym, immersed in a culture of gymnastics, community, and movement. She trained and competed at NAAG up to Level 8 before shifting her athletic focus to diving, where she competed for South Eugene High School, setting multiple records that still stand today.
Her passion for movement extended into dance and tumbling, which, combined with her diving skills, led to a professional offer from Cirque du Soleil. Out of 250 athletes auditioning, Jojo was one of only five selected to train for the Las Vegas “O” show—a testament to her athleticism and artistry. After an ACL injury redirected her path, she poured her energy into teaching and leadership: running after-school programs, teaching at a Montessori school, directing swimming programs for Parks and Recreation, and coaching gymnastics, snowboarding, and other youth sports.
Jojo brings a unique combination of creativity, business acumen, and heart to NAAG. She earned a degree in Business Administration/Marketing and Creative Writing from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, worked professionally in marketing and business management, and has traveled to 21 countries and 42 U.S. states, giving her a broad global perspective she brings back to her work with families and staff.
Since returning to NAAG full-time, Jojo has dedicated herself to building programs that balance fun, fitness, and excellence, while nurturing an environment where children grow in both skill and confidence. Just as importantly, she is committed to making NAAG a great place to work for staff—fostering a culture of support, collaboration, and professional growth. Her leadership reflects not only her family’s legacy but also her personal mission to inspire athletes, families, and staff to thrive—both in the gym and beyond.
